Ground Mural Artist Talk
Bangor Beautiful and Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness are delighted to invite you to celebrate the completion of the Hammond Street Ground Mural with an Artist Talk on Friday, June 14th from 6:00 to 7:00pm at Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness at 16 Central Street in Bangor, Maine. Artists Keyana Pardilla and Reanna Sockabasin will discuss their artwork with Annette Sohns-Dodd, co-founder of Bangor Beautiful and Lisa Sockabasin, Co-CEO of WPHW. ABOUT THE HAMMOND STREET GROUND MURAL: Bangor Beautiful and Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness (WPHW), two Bangor-based nonprofits, partnered together to create the Hammond Street Ground Mural, a visually stunning piece of public asphalt art on Hammond Street in the heart of Bangor near the future Wabanaki Youth & Cultural Center. The project uses public art designed by Wabanaki artists to tell the important story about our connection to the earth, as well as to beautify and increase pedestrian safety. ABOUT BANGOR BEAUTIFUL Bangor Beautiful was founded in 2022 by artists and citizens of Bangor who are passionate about making our community a more beautiful place to live through art and nature. The founding members have been volunteering and beautifying Bangor for many years. Over the past decade, they have planted hundreds of flowers, shrubs, and trees; organized community cleanups and gardening projects; and created murals on walls, benches, parking barriers, and utility boxes in Bangor. They are responsible for murals such as "The Good of the Hive" and "The One Native Lupine." ABOUT WABANAKI PUBLIC HEALTH & WELLNESS Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness (WPHW) serves four federally recognized tribes located in five communities: the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, the Mi’kmaq Nation, the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township, the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point, and the Penobscot Nation. Wabanaki traditions, language, and culture guide our approach and describe the ways we live in harmony with each other and the land we collectively share. Services are available to community members living on and off-reservation across the state of Maine.
